Developer Center Resources For Extending Cygnus Track

Welcome to the Cygnus Track Developer Center

We designed the Developer Center for software developers who want to extend or build upon Cygnus Track to create a customized tracking solution that integrates with their business. Whether you want to add support for your own custom GPS tracking devices, simulate tracking sessions to test your system, or integrate Cygnus Track into your workflow via web services, the Developer Center will have the resources you need.

Basic Details

The Cygnus Track system is composed of three main parts: the Device Listeners, the Device Gateway and the Cygnus Track Web Portal. As you can see from the illustration below, the Device Gateway is a centralized database that facilitates communication between your devices and the web-based tracking portal.

Cygnus Track Diagram

You can work directly with the Cygnus Track Device Gateway via the web services API to accomplish things like adding support for new tracking devices or custom sensor data. All you need is an API Key and Encryption Key, both of which you'll receive for simply signing up for a free Cygnus Track Starter Edition account.

How to Get Started

To help you begin working with the Cygnus Track Device Gateway and all it has to offer, please take a look at the Developer Resources below. They provide full documentation and quick-start guides to help guide you through the process of adding listeners, working with the handy Device Simulator application, and plenty more besides.

Cygnus Track Web Portal QuickStart Guide

If you're new to Cygnus Track, start here. It's an illustrated, step-by-step guide to working with the Cygnus Track web portal, and covers setting up GPS devices, working with departments and tracking your assets on the map.

Device Simulator How-To Videos

The Cygnus Track Device Simulator is a Windows desktop application that can simulate the communication of a GPS tracking device with the Cygnus Track Device Gateway. It's a great way to debug your new custom listener, test the alert conditions that you've set up, or just test out Cygnus Track's feature set. If you don't yet have it, you can download the Simulator here.

Device Gateway Overview

This document will provide you with an overview of how GPS tracking devices communicate with Cygnus Track. It also provides details about the Gateway Web Services that allow you to integrate your own GPS tracking devices and custom functionality directly into Cygnus Track using whichever programming language you prefer.

Cygnus Track Portal Web Services Reference Guide

Full documentation of the methods available in the Cygnus Track 6.0 web portal's web services. These services allow you to programmatically manage or retrieve information about your Cygnus Track departments, devices, carriers, users, alerts and more.

API Wrappers

Gateway SDK for .NET

This API wrapper makes it easy for .NET developers to write their own custom device listeners against the Cygnus Track Device Gateway. Using the Gateway SDK, we've also built some sample listeners that you can use to help you get started.

Device Simulator

The Device Simulator is a handy tool that lets you test the features of Cygnus Track, simulate actual tracking conditions and create mock tracking sessions without ever leaving the comfort of your home or office. It also allows you to test alerts, manage two-way communication between your devices and the Cygnus Track web portal, and debug any device listeners that you may be developing for use with custom hardware.

Sample Listeners

If you are developing a custom device listener for Cygnus Track, the best way to start is by downloading one of these sample listeners that we've prepared to help guide you through the process. You can use any of our sample listeners as a base to develop you own custom listener for any device you wish.

Getting Support

If you have questions about Cygnus Track's developer features, please post in our official Support Forums and your concerns will be addressed by a member of ThinkGeo's support staff. Please make sure to post in the Device Gateway & Device Simulator Support forum.
